About Us

Amayeza Abantu Biomedical (Pty) Ltd was established in 1998. Amayeza Abantu means medicine for the people in isiXhosa, one of South Africa’s indigenous languages. In 2001, the company successfully concluded negotiations with St. Jude Medical for the marketing and distribution of its Cardiac diagnosis and Cardiac Rhythm Management product range in South Africa.

Over the years the company has developed substantially, extending our footprint across the Sub-Saharan region with the aim of becoming a leading provider of quality Cardiology solutions throughout the continent. Today, Amayeza Abantu is renowned for its ability to deliver specialist, quality, state-of-the-art medical technology and skills transfer. We are also exceptionally proud of the relationships we have developed and continue to maintain with key healthcare professionals and hospitals in our region.



Anthony Britz


A true entrepreneur, Anthony has launched several start-up companies in diverse fields such as clothing manufacture, event management and medical marketing and distribution since his departure from the corporate world. During his time with Johnson and Johnson, Anthony was responsible for surgical / cardiology sales. Three years with Baxter-Edwards Lifesciences were spent in their Cardiac business. Anthony has an extensive network of contacts in strategic positions within the industry. As Executive Chairman of Amayeza Abantu, Anthony provides strategic leadership and focuses his attention on developing new opportunities for the company, securing quality international agencies and expanding the product portfolio.


Patrick Godard


Dr. Godard received his medical degree from René Descartes University in Paris, France. In 1992 he joined the Cardiovascular Group of Baxter Healthcare moving quickly to international responsibilities from European marketing to Global Business Unit management for Baxter Healthcare and then Edwards Lifesciences. In 2002 Patrick moved to South Africa to explore new opportunities and joined Amayeza Abantu in April 2004 to lead the development of the cardiac rhythm management, electrophysiology and most recently the neuromodulation division. Today Patrick manages the entire Amayeza Abantu Bio-Medical portfolio.


Gary Hardy


Prior to joining Amayeza Abantu, Gary was a marketing manager with Johnson and Johnson Medical where he was responsible for the Ethicon sutures division including the launch and ongoing management of products such as: Mitek suture anchors, TVT, Absorbable sutures and Dermabond topical skin adhesive. After four years in this division Gary moved to Cordis a division of Johnson & Johnson to market and manage their range of cardiology products. Gary is well known within the market segments he has worked in and has numerous contacts with key decision makers in South Africa.


Dan Willemse


Dan has worked in the Pharmaceutical, Medical Device and Capital Equipment fields for multinational companies such as Bristol Myers Squibb; Johnson & Johnson; Philips Medical Systems and Abbott Medical. In 2008 Dan accepted an offer to join Amayeza Abantu as Commercial Director. He is well known and highly regarded for his ability to build and maintain customer relations and has a reputation as a problem solver in the market.


Heinrich Heyl


Heinrich started his career at Deloitte & Touche South Africa in Pretoria. After completing his articles, he was seconded to the Deloitte Phoenix Arizona branch on the Deloitte JIT programme. He joined Dartcom Pty Ltd where he acquired SA Heat Pump Engineers (Pty) Ltd for the group. He was Managing Director of SA Heat Pump Engineers for 2 years. Heinrich joined the Amayeza Group early 2014 as Financial Director. He has been instrumental in developing and implementing strong corporate governance, financial restructuring and participating to key negotiations with major suppliers.


Christie de Wet


Christie is a qualified Clinical technologist. She joined Amayeza Abantu in 2002 as a Cardiac Rhythm Management (CRM) Territory Manager. Christie moved on as product specialist and Marketing manager for the same division, supporting the St. Jude’s range of Pacemakers and Defibrillators. She is currently responsible for the management of the Inland CRM Sales team.

Gernot Pansi
Gernot a BSc Graduate, has a vast amount of experience having held Senior Executive positions at various Multinational Medical Device companies including E. Merck, Covidien and Systagenix in a career spanning over 20 years.

In 2003, Gernot was appointed as MD of what was then KCI Medical (now Acelity) and was instrumental in bringing Negative Pressure Wound therapy technology to the South African market.

In 2011, he was appointed as Managing Director of Systagenix, a position he held until the merger with Acelity in 2014, where he was appointed as Regional Director Sub Saharan Africa for the Acelity group of companies.
